appearance: Masaru is of average height and weight. He has semi-long brown hair that he keeps in a short ponytail, with long parted bangs, and hazel eyes. He has a lean body, and although he isn't bulging with muscles, he's still particularly strong. His usual attire is a white t-shirt and short sleeves red jacket, with jeans and red slip-on shoes. Around his neck he wears a silver pendant he got from his father.

personality: Hardheaded, rash, and courageous are a few choice words. Masaru lives purely on instinct, doing only what he believes is right. Always looking for a new challenge, he's the self-proclaimed best street fighter in Japan. He's impatient with a short fuse, and hopeless when it comes to most technology (though since everyone decided to go all 1700's, that isn't all that much of a problem). Despite his tough exterior, Masaru is very honorable and would rather die than cheat at anything. He has a tendency to go into "what it means to be a man" speeches, which can be inspiring at first, but quickly become irritating after the sixth or seventh time. Additionally, he'd do anything for a friend, even if he doesn't realize it. Masaru can be very blunt--and loud--and believes that cowardice and betrayal are two of the worst crimes a man can commit. Masaru tries to act serious most of the time, though he's a bit of a screw up. He despises the power above all things and says that his father being missing is all their fault, and would do anything to get back at them for it.

abilities/weaponry: Masaru has no abnormal powers and carries no weapons, all he needs to fight are his fists.

weaknesses: Lacking skill with weaponry, the only thing Masaru can really do is throw punches--strong ones, but that still doesn't make them much more useful. He's overconfident and never thinks about his actions, so his hastiness can easily land him in trouble. Masaru is, like most people, 100% human and can be hurt or killed. Also, his speeches are kind of annoying.

history: Masaru's father, Suguru, is a man of the Power who specializes in computer sciences. Despite the damage the Power had dealt to the Earth, he believed that science was the best way to solve all their problems. When his son was born, he began to work on a new project called Project Digital. This was an attempt to create another world using hi-tech virtual reality programs so that the human race would have a back-up world if Earth was ever made uninhabittable. With his new job, Suguru began coming home less and less, working tirelessly on the complex program.
Then, four years later, it was a success. Another world had successfully been created, and the team of scientists sent a 'lab rat' to take the first step into the new world. However, something went wrong, and the gateway to the world shut, leaving the subject trapped inside. The project was immediately dropped. Despite their failure, the team of scientists that had worked on Project Digital were allowed to keep their jobs. Suguru, certain that the problem in the program could be fixed, pleaded for a second chance, not wanting all of his hard work to go to waste. After all, they had successfully created another world, all that was left was to work out the bugs. Meanwhile, his wife gave birth to Chika, Masaru's younger sister. Eventually, five more years later, Suguru was allowed to continue on the project.
The project had been left alone for many years now, and when he finally returned to pick up where he had left off, Suguru was startled to find that the world had begun to evolve on its own. It already had a wide variety of creatures, which were named Digital Monsters (Suguru isn't all that creative with names). The 'lab rat' they had sent into the program was nowhere in sight, and presumable dead. The team of scientists then began working on stabilizing the gate to their world. With hard work and two more years, they managed to create a stable entrance and work out most of the nasty bugs, and sent another 'lab rat' inside. This time, there were no problems with the gateway. However, the creatures that had evolved within the world were not pleased. After returning their subject back safely, the scientists themselves entered the world to see if they could understand how it evolved on its own.
After receiving no response from the team after 48 hours, they were officially named MIA, and Project Digital was finally put to rest.
Meanwhile, Masaru had begun to hate the Power for taking his father from him. When he went missing, he blamed the Power, and refused to use any of their creations. Chika, too young to understand what happened to her father, was a little more forgiving. Their mother, though she enjoyed the pleasures of the Power's technology, decided it was best that they leave their home behind and live with the People. After all, they now had no income and wouldn't be able to stay in their home for very long. Saving up as much money as they could, the Daimon family sold their fancy house and moved into a small, Power-free home with minimum technology.
When Masaru was 13 and Chika was 9, Masaru began picking fights with other kids, mostly to protect his younger sister. At first, this was all it was, but soon he began to love the thrill of fighting. Not wanting to be a hypocrite, he made sure only to fight those that deserved it (or challenged him, but those were basically the same thing to him), and became a very honorable fighter and all that jazz. He was soon undefeated, and claimed the title of 'best street fighter in Japan' for himself, taking on anyone who tried to take that away from him.
After three more years of this, he began to bore of this, finding fewer and fewer people who could match him in a fight. Eventually, he decided to leave home in pursuit of new opponents, and after thinking about it, he decided the best option would be to join a pirate crew. Why? Because not only would that mean he could travel the world, but he would be doing hard ship work to keep himself in shape. He wasn't all that excited about stealing, but decided to overlook that part and immediately left home, leaving only a brief note to explain why he had left. Leaving behind his home and family, Masaru eagerly prepared for his new life at sea.
